I love making DM Levels, they turn out even better to have a good song in it,
BUT a lot of them that I have are ALL in MP3!
I converted all of them, but the size of the loops went up!
Ex. 1.6MB --> 9.2MB (WAV) 1.6MB --> 7.4MB (OGG)
This is a huge problem. I can't include these songs when I try to upload them to Unreal Software.
So I end up uploading them to my website, (www.666deathrider666.webs.com).

So my point is, I would like, and I'm sure there are others, would like to see CS2D to be able read MP3 format,
cause it would make every ones life a little easier.

Thanks

You need convert from Mp3 to OGG not from Mp3 to Wav to Ogg
Download Audacity
Ogg is the best option

I think this has been alredy discussed, anyways, what did you expect? converting from MP3 to OGG or WAV (that are loseless formats) will always make the file size bigger without improving the sound quality because MP3 itself isn't a loseless audio format.

Solution: Don't put music in your map.

• using MP3 in projects actually costs (too much) money because of license stuff (main reason).

• using large soundfiles in maps (music) is a very stupid idea and you just shouldn't do it. music in maps is totally annoying in most cases.

• ogg has great compression and is absolutely sufficient for all CS2D needs. your soundfile is too huge if it has several mb even as ogg file.

> conclusion: there will certainly be no mp3 support for CS2D. sorry.

I use music on my maps and soundfile size is "128 KB" its basicaly a 20 sec. loop.
But you shold be carefull when puting music on the map since it cold cover the game SFX and you don't wanna do that : )

Well, really, the music loops range from 10 sec. to 1 min.
I would only really use them in DeathMatch levels, I have some good DM songs that work well, or some creepy/eerie music for Zombie levels.

As for volume, It wouldn't be to loud. Plus, if someone didn't like the music, they can delete the file. Simple really.

All in all, thanks for the advice. I didn't know that it would cost money to get MP3 format. So now I won't be asking this question again.

wrong xeNium. He got it right, you not

The usage of the mp3 file format/encoder/decoder costs money. No matter what mp3 files you want to use. Of course most songs cost money as well but that's not what I'm talking about.

blitzmax does also not natively support mp3 because of the licensing problems so this is another reason for the lack of mp3 support.

You should convert .mp3 files to either .ogg alternatively .wav files instead it will be way better, as DC mentioned "mp3" audio is not supported in BlitzMax, supposedly it won't be encased within BlitzMax at all unless the team of BlitzMax does something about that, simple as that.
